Calls policy
Draft of 2026-10-05.
Call Me Awake places automated phone calls and sends text messages to wake people up. This page says exactly how, and how to make it stop.
Every call says what it is
- The opening of every call says who is calling and that it is automated: "This is Call Me Awake, your automated wake-up call."
- The same opening tells you how to stop: "Press 9 to stop all calls." You can press 9 at any point while the prompts are playing.
- Every repeat of the prompt during a call names Call Me Awake, says it is automated and offers the 9 again.
- The voice is a computer. There is no human operator, and we never pretend otherwise.
- We do not record calls.
Who we call
We call only phone numbers that have been verified with a code sent by text message to that number, by the person who added it. We verify again every 180 days and whenever a number is changed. We call at the times the account holder set, and for no other reason: no sales, no surveys, no marketing, and no upsell during a call.
How many times we call
- A wake-up call that isn't answered with a press of 1 is retried 2, 5 and 8 minutes later by default. The account holder can choose fewer, or up to five retries.
- Pressing 2 asks for one call back in 9 minutes, up to three times. Those are the defaults; the account holder can change both in Settings.
- However the settings are chosen, a single wake-up call is never tried more than 16 times in all, and an account has a daily limit on calls.
- If calls don't get through, we send a text message and a notification once, and then stop.
How to make it stop
- Press 9 during any call. Every call on that account stops, and the number is marked do-not-call. Calls only restart if the account holder turns them back on.
- Reply STOP to any text from us. We stop texting and calling that number. Our texts end with "Reply STOP to stop calls and texts." We also treat other clear ways of saying you want it to stop, such as "don't call me again" or "take me off your list", as STOP. Replying START (or UNSTOP or YES) lifts a STOP you sent.
- Turn it off yourself. Pause or delete a call, or turn calls off, in the app or on the web, or delete the account.
- Tell us. Write to staging@callmeawake.com and name the number. We will look at it and block the number.
A call that wasn't meant for you
Phone numbers change hands. If you get a call from us meant for someone else, press 9, or text STOP, or write to us. Reports like this are treated as complaints: the number is blocked from then on, whichever account it is on.
So that we can keep that promise, we keep the numbers of people who texted STOP, were reported as a complaint or were blocked by our staff, in plain text and with no link to any account, even after an account is deleted. See the privacy policy for how long.
Texts
We send text messages to verify a number, and, if a call wasn't answered, a short backup message with the time, place and the STOP line. Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply. Write to us for help. [Counsel: add the message frequency and program disclosures that carriers require for registration.]
We follow the rules that apply to automated calls and texts where we call, including those of the US (TCPA and FCC), the UK (Ofcom) and the EU. [Counsel: confirm this statement, and whether the opt-out must be spoken before any key can be pressed; whether we check the US Reassigned Numbers Database is decided separately.]
